HISTORY OF THE SLASH'S IMITATION LES PAUL THAT CONTINUES TO MAKE GIBSON FAMOUS

Slash stands as one of the most iconic Gibson enthusiasts throughout history. Interestingly, the celebrated guitarist of Guns N' Roses predominantly wielded a replicated Les Paul during numerous recording sessions, most notably for the groundbreaking album 'Appetite for Destruction.'

Kriss Derrig as born in Greenfield, Massachusetts, on April 6, 1954. Tragically, at the tender age of 33, he succumbed to cancer in California on May 14, 1987. Mr. Derrig was not only a virtuoso musician but also a skilled luthier. He etched his name into the annals of music history by crafting the legendary Les Paul '59 replica that would later become synonymous with Slash of Guns N' Roses.

Today, Derrig's guitars are prized possessions, highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors alike. Under the aegis of the Slash endorsement brand, Gibson has released numerous iterations of his revered replica. Just think about that for a second.

When it comes to studio sessions, Slash exhibited a profound preference for the Derrig '59 Les Paul Standard replica. With this instrument, he breathed life into the music of Guns N' Roses, Slash's Snakepit, Velvet Revolver, and his solo projects.

Sadly, Kris Derrig never had the chance to witness the profound impact his Les Paul replica would have on Guns N' Roses' debut masterpiece and the distinctive sonic signature of Slash. He passed mere months before the release of 'Appetite For Destruction.' He was unable to witness the monumental impact of his contribution to the world of guitars. Had he survived, the public would have eventually recognized him as the true source of the '59 Les Paul replica that was instrumental in creating the distinctive 'Appetite For Destruction' sound. Kris Derrig's legacy is a testament to the rare blend of unwavering passion and exceptional talent that defines true craftsmen. A compassionate and devoted aficionado of guitars, Kris Derrig crafted what is arguably the world's most famous Les Paul today.

May 14, 2023, marked the 36th anniversary of Kris Derrig's passing.
